The camera responsible for starting all of this nonsense!
The first and still regarded by many as the best Video HDSLR on the market. The camera has the biggest sensor of any HDSLR which means very good low light performance and potentially a very shallow depth of field. The sensor is full frame which means no crop factor for your lenses, 50mm = 50mm. The latest firmware means the camera supports 24p, 25p and 29.97p frame rates. Also there is now manual control for audio! This means no horrible Auto Gain Control ruining your soundtrack, you can now throw on a videomic and start running and gunning.
Most of the disadvantages of the camera are due to its age. The screen at the back is lower res than others, and the hdmi output will only support standard def when recording if you are thinking about using a monitor. Also the older processor seems unable to support 50p and 60p for slowmo.
The full frame sensor limits the number of lenses you can use however this is not necessarily a disadvantage. What you can achieve with a 7D at f2.8 you can achieve with a 5D at f4 (if that's nonsense to you then all will hopefully be explained when I cover lenses). The advantage of this being that while you may pay more for the 5D body initially, you can save money down the line by being able to buy cheaper lenses.
Of all the big primetime shows adopting HDSLRs almost all of them are choosing the 5D as their primary camera. If you've got the money its a very good buy.
